Influence of alloys

C Carbon It is the most relevant element to obtain the desired hardness during hardening and tempering
Si Silicon Increase wear resistance of low alloy steels
Mn Manganese Helps increase hardening, provides impact wear resistance
Cr Chromium Provides a good resistance against wear and abrasion, increases hardening
Mo Molybdenum During heating it increases the temperature at which the austenitic grain starts to increase in size. Increase depth of hardening and improves penetration resistance
V Vanadium Produces fine grains, increases hardening, provides considerable wear resistance
Increase impact strength (just like nickel) and elastic limit
