Influence of alloys
C | Carbon | It is the most relevant element to obtain the desired hardness during hardening and tempering |
Si | Silicon | Increase wear resistance of low alloy steels |
Mn | Manganese | Helps increase hardening, provides impact wear resistance |
Cr | Chromium | Provides a good resistance against wear and abrasion, increases hardening |
Mo | Molybdenum | During heating it increases the temperature at which the austenitic grain starts to increase in size. Increase depth of hardening and improves penetration resistance |
V | Vanadium | Produces fine grains, increases hardening, provides considerable wear resistance Increase impact strength (just like nickel) and elastic limit |
